Back to e-teacher

I guess I need the structure of e-teacher and a real teacher that I am responsible to once a week.
I have had two lessons and my fear of level B is getting less and less. I think perhaps that is the teacher and we are still in review.
I also called e-teacher and requested recordings of the classes that my last teacher(s) did not get to. I have listened to the recordings of the classes and I will continue to listen to them. From here I can work in the books that are easier for me to follow and get the repetition from.
So...here we go again with another year of e-teacher and Biblical Hebrew.

At last the right material.

I have finally settled in on a couple of books that seem to be working for me. Both of them have alot, alot, of repetitive work. That is what I have been looking for all the while. I don't know if I was over looking it or if I just did not know what kind of book to look for. Nonetheless I now have a couple of books to work out of.
We will see if I can improve from here.

A bit at a time.

For the past month I have been reading Biblical Hebrew with a group on skype. I think my Hebrew reading has gotten so much better.
And I have been trying to spend some time, an hour or more, every day studying in some form or another. Things are starting to jell a bit. I know I need to spend more time learning the endings of words. And the personal pronouns. Things I will start doing more of.
I need to spend more time on my own without other things interupting.

Children's Easter Program

The children's choir had a wonderful Easter Program. They all did wonderful jobs and I was very proud of them.

I have been trying to read Hebrew a couple of times a week. I think I am improving a great deal. Now I recognize most of the words alot of the time. I still have words that are so strange that even after I have sounded them out they still sound "odd". But there is no way to get better than to practice.
Starting Thursday I will be working with another woman on a self study Hebrew course. We will see how that goes.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

Well, we are back to reading with the original group plus I read three days a week with a single other person. Perhaps this way I can get reading in most days of the week.

I think I only have one or two more day's painting the apt for the kids. If I go tomorrow and paint the hall and the bathroom then I should be just about finished. I know we still have to trim out the window and A/c but I think that we are down to cabinets and Zeb is getting the floors tiled. Gosh we are almost finished and they can move in I would hazard to guess next week. He almost has the bottom cabinets finished and then he will just have to plumb the sink in. I know he still has to make the drawers and we need to go and get a piece of counter top. They have to plumb for the shower and get the commode and sink installed. Gosh... soon and very soon.

Back to Hebrew. After I finish with helping on the Apt. I will start spending one or two hours a day studying Hebrew. My new class starts in May so I only have a month or so to get it done. I would like to be stronger in vocab and perhaps go over the personal pronouns and verbal system. We will see how much I get done.

Our children's Choir sings their Passover program next Sunday. Boy the time has gone so fast and there is so little time to get it all pulled together. My grandson has his lines memorized and I think the others do also. They are so cute.

Then, on Monday my whole family will be here for Passover. Gosh, so much to do this week and I just realized that...LOL

I will write again soon.

Hebrew Reading Update

I have decided to step out of the Hebrew reading group that I have been reading with for the past few weeks.
Good news though, several of the others want to read without the restrictions to pay or teach. So, there will be several of us reading again. Now perhaps we can go back to just reading without all of the drama.

On a different note, we are getting closer to finishing our son, and his wife's, efficiency apt. I only lack the entry hall and the bathroom having it all mudded and a coat of primer on it. Today I got the living area primed and the ceiling finished. I also got the bathroom painted behind the commode before they got ready to set it. I think it is so tacky to have to pull a commode and no one put the effort out to paint behind it.
The bathroom will be red. Great color even if it is a small space. It needs something to give it some pizazz.
Monday I will paint the main living area a blue. The bedroom is finished except for the floor tile. When I am finished painting the entry hall then it can be tiled also. I am hoping that the bathroom can be tiled at the same time and when we are finished then we can tile the mail living area.

When we are finished I will have time to go back to studying my Hebrew more. Such is life, there are interruptions to my schedule.

Until next time.

Dragons

I have been knitting dragons. Cute dragons with green bodies and white bellies. The One that I am almost finished with is the 4th one. I probably need to knit one more to give to a friend. This is the one that I am giving to my grandson.
They are so very cute.

New Hebrew Reading Group

I have been reading with a group a few times a week. It is different. Not bad, not good, but different.
I have decided to take Biblical Hebrew A.5 starting in May. I will be practicing the vocab and some of the concepts that I have already learned.
I think I will continue reading but I don't know if I will stay with this same group. I think that the reqirement that you teach or pay is becoming tedious.

We will see how that progresses.

How does one learn to blog consistently?

Oh my goodness, I can't believe that it has been since Aug 2010 since I have written any thing.

I am at the end of the second year of "first year" Hebrew. I feel as if I know more than I did at the beginning of this last "year of Hebrew". I know that I understand a lot more about what I have learned. I guess I need it twice to even know what questions to ask. Unfortunately at $800.00 a pop I will not be taking another "year" of Hebrew lessons. I need to find some other way to learn Hebrew. I have been reading some with a group that reads every evening. I don't read every evening but I try to read a couple of times a week. At that it is only mildly helpful. Perhaps that is because I am such a slow learner.

Another thing that I have been trying to do is to read Scripture in Hebrew and in English and I am going to change even that. I think I will start trying to break down the words in Hebrew and learn word by word what scripture is saying. I know that there is a side by side Bible, and I have one of those but I really feel that I should be breaking the words down for my self. After all, if I wanted to know what some one else thinks the Scripture says then I could just read it in English.

I know that the Lord is patient with me because of how long He kept me in the book of Hebrews in the New Testament. Now I am in Genesis and I am still in the first three verses. But the good Lord is finally getting through to this thick head.

I am spending some time "resting" from learning new "verbal forms". I am reading the Seama over and over with the idea of learning what each word means translating from Hebrew to concepts I can understand without line by line translation in to English.
I am not sure if this will help but it is a break form the verbal system without just not working on Hebrew.

I would like a teacher, but in East Texas I know that is like asking for snow in June. Not impossible but not probable.

Well, I suppose it is time for me to get back to preparing the children's Sunday School lesson.
